General Guild Rules
- Have a Decent Computer / Network: All members are expected to have a broadband Internet connection and a computer capable of playing the game well. If your FPS are too low in certain encounters, or you are having severe latency issues, we reserve the right to direct you to step out so we may substitute another player.
- Be Humane: All members are expected to treat each other with common courtesy, respect, dignity, and human decency.
- We will discuss with you and try to resolve any first complaint we've received.
- Upon receiving a second complaint about your behavior, it will result in demotion to Rank 6 (Squire).
- Receiving a 3rd complaint will result in removal from the guild.
- Participate and Communicate:
- We realize real-life has a nasty habit of interrupting your ability to raid every now and then. Elysian uses a weekly roster rotation to address this. As an example, this rotation allows members to raid for 2 weeks, then have a week off from raiding. Class / spec / raid role rotation depends on various factors, but the rosters are created and scheduled with a fair rotation (that balances out in the long-run) in mind.
- All active raiding members who are in rotation are expected to attend regularly, to be on-time, and to come prepared with consumables, knowledge of the strategy, etc. Members who fail to appear for a significant number of raids during a one month period will be demoted to Rank 6 (Squire). See Attendance and Preparedness Policy below for additional information.
- Review the Official Chat Channels & Usage post in the Guild Structure and Rules section of our forums (visible to guild members only) for details on official guild raid channels and expected behavior / conduct when communicating.
- Members (and ALTs) who are inactive (i.e., have not logged on) for 1 month or more may be removed from the guild.
- Perform at Your Best: Elysian uses a performance review system and has policies in place to ensure raid member performance is at an acceptable level. See the Performance Policy below for more information.
- Don't Be Greedy: Elysian uses an open roll system for gear distribution. While we don't restrict individuals from rolling on multiple items, please be courteous to your fellow raiders if you have received something during the current raid.
- Be Fun But Focused: All members are encouraged to keep the environment light-hearted and fun while still remaining focused on guild / raid objectives. This is a game and we should all be able to enjoy it and each other. Behave as you would if you were standing next to the person in real life, but don't take things so seriously that you stress everyone out.
- Promotions: Guild rank promotions are subject to a closed vote on the part of Guild Leadership and are subject to the member in question being in good standing with the guild and its members. "Good standing" is defined as fulfilling the rights & responsibilities of their current rank and living up to the ideals of the Elysian community.
- Extended Leave of Absence: An extended leave of absence is defined as being unavailable to raid for 3 or more weeks. Members who will be away from the game for a period of time must post on our forums to notify us of their extended absence, and must remain in communication with Leadership regarding their status. See Extended Leave of Absence for more information.
- Getting Hacked: Members who realize their accounts have been hacked must post immediately to notify us of the situation so that we may take immediate action in temporarily demoting you to Rank 6 (Squire) to prevent any guild bank withdrawals.
- Leaving the Guild: Members who are thinking of leaving the guild:
- Must notify an Officer or the GM a minimum of 3 days before you plan to apply to another guild or leave Elysian. This is just common courtesy and basic human decency / respect (see Rule #2). It allows one last chance at opening up a dialogue between you and Guild Leadership to address any concerns that may be the motivation behind your desire to leave, and also allows us to plan for a roster adjustment should your mind be made up about leaving.
- May be re-extended a guild invite subject to GM approval only, depending on the circumstances surrounding your departure and your reason for leaving in the first place. We will not be a revolving door.
Attendance and Preparedness Policy
There are going to be other people who could be impacted by your absence. Be respectful of other people's time.
Be responsible and proactive and post to the "Gruul's Lair" forum on our guild website (visible to guild members only) if you know you will be late or unavailable.
General Raid Attendance Rules
- If you know in advance that you won't be available to raid (whether scheduled to raid or not), post a reply to the corresponding "Missing :: Day, Month Date" thread so we can coordinate a backup as soon as possible.
- For every raid you are scheduled to go to that you communicate in advance that you cannot attend, you will not be punished, but you will not be rewarded either.
- For every raid that you will be late to by < 10 minutes, we may hold your slot open provided you’ve let us know in advance that you’re running late. If you wind up being more than 10 minutes late, you may have lost that spot in the raid group for that night. If you don't post at all or otherwise communicate with Guild Leadership and aren't on by start time, you will lose your spot in the raid group for that night.
Performance Policy
Elysian has a performance policy in place to ensure raid and player performance is at an acceptable level that furthers guild raid progression.
- Mistakes*: Can be lethal and lead to a wipe, so we can't afford to repeat the same mistakes over and over. The officers uses Grim Reaper and can see the timeline of what happened to you; trying to bullshit the officers is probably not the wisest idea. Raiders new to an encounter will be given a little more leeway in this regard, but veterans of an encounter (especially one on Farm Status) are expected to know better and not make noob mistakes (see below for some examples of what qualifies as "noob mistakes"). As such, the following will apply across the board for "farmed content" but may be implemented for Learning Encounters as well if the mistakes are excessive and repetitive:
- 1st mistake: Public inquiry on Vent or in raid chat to determine exactly what happened; may be followed up by a whisper. Will be respectful and calm, not "ZOMG, WTF!?!?" Issue will be noted in Officer forums for tracking purposes. Reasons:
- Private whispers take longer, tend to lead to a confrontational and argumentative tone (or are met with no response), and have generally proven to be ineffective -- the issue isn't up for discussion or debate.
- We're trying to discover what led to the mistake, and if it was indeed your mistake, we're alerting you calmly and politely where you've failed and expect you to address the problem responsibly and maturely.
- Other raiders see the performance issue(s) and need to know with 100% certainty that the issue is being addressed; otherwise they lose faith that leadership is actually leading and morale suffers.
- 2nd mistake: Raid Leader whispers the player in an attempt to discover what the continuing problem is. Public inquiry may or may not happen.
- 3rd mistake: Player is whispered by an Officer and benched for the rest of the night and a backup is brought in if necessary / available.
- NOTE: If the same player makes the same mistake the next raid week the player is present for, that player will be told to step out and placed on permabackup status.
- Redemption for Mistakes
- If you've been placed on permabackup status due to making 3 mistakes and want to redeem yourself:
- You must remain online and available for a minimum of 2 raids each week for the 2 weeks following your benching.
- If you meet that, we may then bring you back into the raid for the 3rd week. Generally, you will need to be flawless in your performance.
- Performance Issues:
- Your Class Leader (or an Officer) will make a note in the Class Leader forums: "Spoke with Player X on Date Y about issue Z". After you have been notified of a performance defect (e.g., failure to maintain DoTs, failure to decurse on par with your peers, etc.), you have 1-2 weeks (depending on severity and roster rotations) to demonstrate improvement.
- At the end of that period, the CL and an Officer will have a 2nd discussion with you regarding the issue. If you've satisfactorily resolved the issue, you're in no danger. If you have not, you will be given one last chance to fix it.
- 1-2 weeks after that 2nd discussion, if there is still no discernible improvement, you will be placed on permabackup status.
- Redemption for Performance Issues
- If you've been placed on permabackup status due to ongoing class performance issues, you will be permabenched for one month.
- During that time, you are expected to research, read, discuss with peers, and learn the ins and outs of your class and how to play in a raid setting.
- At the end of the month, you will be placed back into rotation and given 2 consecutive weeks of raiding to demonstrate you have improved.
- If the issue has not been resolved by that time, you will be perma-benched and demoted to the appropriate rank.
*Intentionally making mistakes to try to "game the system" so that you can get a free period of time off from raiding will result in removal from the guild. We'll determine this based on your past performance history. If you've always been a stand-up "A-Game All the Time" player and are suddenly making mistake after mistake for no legitimate reason, something is obviously up.
Some Examples of "Noob" Mistakes:
- Standing in the kite-path of the infernals on Anetheron
- Not being able to kill your constructs by yourself on Teron Gorefiend
- Failing to adjust positioning correctly on Gurtogg Bloodboil thereby screwing up bloodboil sequencing.
- "Cratering" on Archimonde by not using your Tears of the Goddess correctly (when there are no extenuating circumstances).
- Excessively getting Doomfired on Archimonde.
- Failing to run the right way on Mother Shahraz.
- Interrupting a "Deaden" on Reliquary of Souls.
Loot Rules
Elysian uses a Need vs. Greed system for all 10-person raid groups / instances.
Members may on occasion ask a class member to pass on an item for them. However, these situations should occur with great irregularity, and harassment will not be tolerated. If you ask, and the person says, "No," then do not ask them again. Repeated violations of this rule will result in removal from the guild.
Members are expected to exercise good judgment and common sense when an item drops, using the following suggestions for guidance:
- Don't be greedy; you should know whether the item will be a bigger upgrade for you or for someone else expressing an interest in the item. If it's a bigger upgrade for them, then you should probably pass.
However, there will be difficult decisions in the cases of new members who have not spent as long as you have hoping for that damn item to drop; in cases like that, should you decide to, it is acceptable to roll without having the GM view you as being a greedy selfish ass. (Guild seniority has its privileges, and this is one of them; those with a longer tenure in the guild have paid their dues and should be entitled to at least have a chance at obtaining the item in this situation.)
- If you've already obtained one or more items recently, you should strongly consider passing.
- Defensive gear needs to be passed on for those whose primary role is a tank.
- DPS plate gear needs to be passed on for DPS warriors / paladins / death knights
- All classes, especially rogues, need to pass on weapons that they are not primarily spec'd for (e.g., a primarily dagger-spec'd rogue needs to pass on a sword for a sword-spec'd rogue). You do not need to have every weapon ever invented.
Extended Leave of Absence
Once on leave the member will be demoted to Rank 6 (Squire) to prevent their ability to withdraw items from the guild bank. This demotion may be temporary (until their return) or permanent (depending on their status).
While we will generally try to be understanding and accommodating when members must step back from the game for an extended period of time, we make no guarantee that your raid spot will be available to you when you return.
The following should provide general guidance as to how Elysian shall handle these extended leaves of absence, though implementation of these rules and how sternly we treat you are subject to various factors (such as past player performance, tenure with the guild, attitude, behavior, etc):
- 1st Extended Absence: Upon your return, if your spot in the rotation remains available, you will be prohibited from rolling on any drops for a period of 3 active (non-backup) raiding weeks. You may only obtain gear during this period if it would otherwise be disenchanted.
- Repeated Extended Leaves: Will result in demotion to Rank 8 (Serf) and you will be last in line for raiding.
Requesting Materials from the Guild Bank
- Rank 9 (Dumbass 4 a Day) has no access to the Guild Bank at all.
- Members of Rank 6 (Squire) through Rank 8 (Serf) can view and deposit into the guild bank but cannot withdrawal; this includes ALTs.
- All members of Rank 5 (Knight) through Rank 0 (Guild Master) can view, deposit, and withdraw. Note that withdrawals are limited to 1 stack of items per day, and that withdrawing a partial stack (1 item out of a stack of 10) still counts as a full stack (blame Blizzard).
- Officers (Rank 2 - General) and the Guild Master have access to the "GL-Restricted" tab (expensive mats, items reserved for raid usage, epic gems, etc)
- Officers can withdraw a number of stacks per day and a limited amount of gold (to reimburse for guild-requests respecs, distribution of epic gems, etc.)
- As noted above, members who are on leave or whose accounts have been hacked will be demoted to a rank that prevents guild bank withdrawals.
If there’s an item in the bank that you need, don’t hesitate to take it – in moderation. Note that the Guild Master and Officers monitor the guild bank deposit / withdrawal logs regularly and excessive withdrawals without a similar number of deposits may merit disciplinary action.
If you are taking something from the guild bank that is of relatively high value, a deposit of gold or similarly-priced item(s) is appreciated.
